KATHMANDU TRIENNALE 2022 (KT 2022)

KATHMANDU TRIENNALE 2022
2022-02-11 - 0022-03-31

The Kathmandu Triennale 2022 (Kathmandu Triennale 2077) presented an expansive and dynamic exploration of contemporary art, with its fourth edition held from February 11 to March 31, 2022. Organized by the Siddhartha Arts Foundation and in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, the triennale brought together over 130 artists from more than 40 countries, showcasing a diverse range of artistic practices, including visual art, sculpture, performance, and multimedia installations.

The triennale was curated by Cosmin Costinas (Artistic Director), with Sharareh Bajracharya as Director and Sheelasha Rajbhandari and Hit Man Gurung as co-curators. The central theme of the event, "Connecting the Dots," invited artists to explore the intersections of historical, cultural, and social contexts, urging conversations around migration, displacement, colonial legacies, and the decolonization of art. The festival’s sites spanned the cultural and historic heart of Kathmandu, including Patan, Boudha, and Kathmandu, with installations and exhibitions transforming iconic spaces such as Patan Museum and Bhaktapur Durbar Square.

In addition to the exhibitions, the Kathmandu Triennale 2022 featured an array of public programming, including artist talks, panel discussions, and workshops, which facilitated deeper engagement with the works presented. These events encouraged dialogue around the pressing issues of our time, highlighting the role of art in shaping social, political, and cultural narratives. The festival was not only a celebration of contemporary art but also positioned Kathmandu as a prominent center for artistic exchange, enriching the city’s cultural landscape and fostering global connections within the art community.
