Among the many types of amulets, protective objects or incantations are wearable amulets. In Southeast Asia, these amulets are powerful magical objects, containing a tradition that spans diferent lineages of art history. These blouses are connected to the tattoo culture of the region, itself a form of protecting, healing, and connecting the body to higher forces. Included in the exhibition are such amulets from the Philippines, known as anting-anting, which were used primarily in military and outlaw worlds.
