Hung Fai’s artistic practice is inscribed in a vibrant conversation about the role and vocabulary of Chinese ink painting in the contemporary. For The Six Principles of Chinese Painting: Transmission by Copying, in a reversal of master and disciple roles, Fai invited his father Hung Hoi, a major fgure of Chinese painting, to paint a landscape with cinnabar red colour on xuan paper as a model. With the paper folded and saturated, Fai traced the model landscape with black ink dot
