Flemish
Tapestry

fragment with a naturalistically depicted fantastical forest
17th/18th century

This fragment of a Flemish tapestry, whose visual language is not without connections to the Persian world of textiles presented in the other exhibition room, nevertheless re fects European artistic principles of perspective and realism – the latter of which connected to European ideas that consider nature an objective reality and trove of resources to be exploited.
